County Attorney

The Carbon County Attorney is an elected official who represents both Carbon County and, in criminal prosecutions, the State of Montana. The County Attorney is responsible for the prosecution of all felony crimes occurring in the county, all misdemeanor crimes occurring outside the city limits of an incorporated town within the county, and all misdemeanor citations issued by the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, Montana Highway Patrol troopers, and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks wardens. The Carbon County Attorney Office does not conduct criminal investigations. Suspected criminal activity should be reported to law enforcement agencies.

The County Attorney is also responsible for defending or prosecuting all civil claims for or against the County and serves as the legal advisor for County officials.
